Sandra Ruth Slay-Timko, passed away unexpectedly on January 31, 2023 at her home after a short illness. She was only 72 years old. Sandra, known as Nonni to her grandchildren, died quietly, in the same way she lived. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by her sudden death.
Sandra was born on February 26, 1950 in Cameron, TX to Raymond L. Slay and Ethel Beatrice (Hardcastle) Slay. She grew up on a ranch near Gause, TX and was quite the tomboy. She loved being outdoors and riding horses. She went to elementary school in Gause and High School in Hearne, TX.
Sandra cared for her family through life’s troubles and successes. She often put the comfort of others above her own. She served them without pomp or circumstance, finding the favorite dishes of family and friends in order to cook the foods they loved.
Sandra married the love of her life, Steve Timko, on July 7, 1990, on Maui, HI and they were married for 32 years. She worked at Johnson & Johnson in Arlington, TX for a short time. Then she stayed home as a homemaker and traveled with Steve on some of his job assignments.
Survivors include her husband, Steve Timko; her son Tristan (Cindy) Carmichael of Gause, TX. Also surviving is her sister, Cheryl (Chuck) Timko (Yes, brothers married sisters); her niece Kayla Timko of Huntsville, TX; her stepsons Richard (Linda) Timko and Jeffrey (Lori) Timko of Sulphur Springs, TX. And most importantly the grandkids: Kailey, Kelsie, Jaden, Madison, Haley, Aden, Veronica and Valerie.
Sandra was beautiful inside and out, with a sneaky smile and a contagious laugh and beautiful blue eyes.
Sandra had a deep love for dogs. Our current pup, Remi, a miniature dachshund will miss her “Mom”. She also loved the cat, Miss Kitty. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Sandra’s memory to a local pet rescue center.
She will be missed.
