Robert Wayne Boggan, 72, of Hearne, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, June 11, 2023, after a brief battle with Leukemia.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 5-7 PM at Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne, Texas.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Memorial Funeral Home.

Bobby was born on June 26, 1950, in Rockdale, Texas, to Vester and Carrie Boggan.  He graduated from Hearne High School in 1968.  He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1968 and served in Vietnam in Okinawa, Japan. After returning home to Hearne, Bobby met the love of his life, Mary Velasquez, and they married on June 16, 1973.  Bobby and Mary started their family soon after and raised their 3 sons: Sam, Brian, and Ty in Hearne.  Bobby was an active member of his community and spent most of his free time coaching Little League and soccer, and traveling all over watching his boys participate in the sports they loved.

After working for 28 years, Bobby retired from GATX in Hearne.  Retirement was short lived, and Bobby decided to return to work.  Over the years he worked at the Texas A&M Library, the U.S. Census, and the U.S. Postal Service.  Bobby retired a second time from the U.S. Postal Service in 2013.  From that point on, his days were spent playing golf with friends at the Hearne Municipal Golf Course and spending time with his grandchildren.  Up until a few weeks before his passing, Bobby could be found at the baseball field watching his grandson play the sport he loves.

Bobby was an active member of the Hearne VFW where he was Commander.  Being a resident of Hearne for his entire life, he was well known and loved in his community.  “Bobcat” was a regular at Amigos where you could always find him early in the mornings eating a bowl of menudo and enjoying a cup of coffee.  He loved all things Texas Aggies, Dallas Cowboys, and Houston Astros, and he was a huge supporter of the Hearne Eagles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vester, and Carrie Boggan, his nephew, Scott Boggan. Bobby is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Mary Velasquez Boggan of Hearne; his three sons and their families: Sam Boggan of Houston;  Brian Boggan and wife, Alison, of College Station; Ty Boggan and wife, Amanda, of Hearne;  3 Grandchildren: Lauren Boggan and Jacob Boggan of College Station, and Cash Boggan of Hearne; 2 brothers: Joe Boggan and wife, JoAnn, of Hearne; Charles Boggan, and wife, Diane, of Brenham; One sister: Vicki Boggan Locke, and husband Monte, of Cameron; and many brothers and sisters in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that he loved dearly.
