Rita Ann O'Neil

Rita Ann Rutherford O'Neil, 75, of Hearne TX entered Heaven on September 16, 2023.

She was born to Rudolph and Eyvonne Rutherford, November 15, 1947, in Terrell TX. In 1966, Rita graduated from Terrell High School. After high school she attended East Texas State University and received her Bachelor of Science in 1970.

After graduating from ETSU, she married the boy that changed her flat tire back in 1964, Thomas Michael O'Neil. They were married on New Year's Eve in 1970. They were married for 52 years, 8 months, 15 days, and 17 hours.

Rita is survived by her husband, Mike O’Neil, daughter Katie and Rudy Trujillo; son Terrence Michael O'Neil, and three grandchildren, Julian, Elizabeth, and Desi Trujillo.

Rita taught at Hearne High School for 23 years. She saw teaching, advocating for children with disabilities and under privileged children as her ministry. Hospitality was her spiritual gift.

Robertson County was her mission field. She worked as a Homemaking teacher, FHA and cheerleader sponsor. For years she helped plan pep rallies, took high school kids to cheerleading camps and the State Fair of Texas for field trips.

Rita helped organize the set up and judging of the food portion of the Robertson County Fair.

She was a role model to young adults in a wholesome, Christian, stable lifestyle. Rita was active with the Boys & Girls Clubs, various high school organizations, and the Church of Christ. She had an affection for dogs and has fostered and adopted many.
