Linda Joy (Payne) Cornelius

Linda (Payne) Cornelius was born on December 29, 1946, in Cameron, Texas, to James and Frances Williams Payne. She graduated from Milano High School and was a dedicated employee for many years at P&M State Bank/First Victoria in Hearne.

Growing up, Linda and her family spent hours every weekend playing dominoes, mainly 42 with family and friends. On August 29, 1970, Linda married the love of her life, Edward Lee Cornelius. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and love. Her children were her greatest joy, followed closely by her grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply.

Linda enjoyed spending time with her family and had a passion for cooking and baking. She was known for her famous chocolate cake and chocolate pie. One of her favorite pastimes was visiting flea markets and garage sales in search of antiques and collectible treasures with her husband, an activity they both enjoyed for many years before Edward's passing. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Hearne.

She went to be with the Lord on September 26, 2026 in Bryan, TX. Linda leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Don Rose of Gause; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Christy Cornelius of Hearne; and her beloved grandchildren, Meagan and Mason Cornelius, both of Hearne.

Linda was proceeded in death by her parents, James and Frances Payne and her husband of 44 years, Edward Cornelius.
