Kathryn Owings

Kathryn “Kitty” Owings died peacefully in her sleep just before dawn on Thursday. March 9th, in Bryan, Texas at the age of 97 years old. She is preceded by her loving husband, Johnny. She is survived by her 3 children: Nancy and Doug Crouch, Molly and Bill Schraub, and Scott and Lisa Owings. Her six grandchildren, Josh, Zack and Kaitlin and Katy Schraub; Alex and Elizabeth, Eric and Joy Owings; two great grandchildren, Lila and Hollis Schraub, who knew her affectionately as “Grandma Kitty” and treasured their memories with her and countless blessings from her life.

Kitty was a lifelong, faithful Christian and loved others unconditionally. She was a wonderful cook and loved to share this gift with others. Among family and friends, she was famous for her Pound Cake and Chocolate Cake with divinity icing. Kitty’s passion was teaching children, whether in Sunday School, with 5th graders, at preschool, or teaching English using the Bible in Russia, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Kitty was enthusiastic and a highly respected teacher who touched the lives of her students and their families. Wherever she went, Kitty always had a smile and a kind word to share.

The family will gather in Austin at a later date to celebrate a life well lived and for her influence on countless others. A special Thank-You to Legacy Nursing Home and Rehab for the loving care they gave to mom.
