John Dell Owen-Smith

John Dell Owen Smith, 83, was born on June 1, 1942 to John George Owen and Eula Mae Williams.

She went to be with the Lord on June 30, 2025.

John Dell lived most of her life in Gause, Texas. Most people knew her by Johnnie Dell. She loved her family and her friends with all her heart and soul and would always lend a hand to her friends that needed her to clean their house or mow their grass. She would work from sunup to sundown, never leaving a job unfinished. Shen loved cooking for all her kids and grandkids, we all enjoyed it when we knew that she was going to be making her Banana Pudding or her salami croquettes.

John Dell was a member of Gause Baptist Church in Gause, Texas. That is where she found her spiritual home. She would go every Sunday morning and she would worship her Father and praise His Name by singing and shouting her love for her Father, then her health started going down hill and she was unable to attend church but she would still praise her Father by singing and listening to her gospel songs, especially Amazing Grace. She would just sing and her voice would fill the house so everyone could hear her, even if she was outside.

John Dell is the mother of 8 kids, 6 girls: Eula Dell Patterson, Elizabeth Ann Owen, Rose Lilly Starr, Elmer May Reese, April Marshale Reese Finch, and Dollie Marie Scanlin. 2 boys: Rufus Jackson Reese Jr., and Charles Franklin Woods.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grand children and great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and a nephew.

Her family is large, and they all loved her dearly, her family consists of:

Elzabeth Ann Patterson and her 3 children, Eula Dale and her 4 children, Charles Franklin Woods, Rose Lilly Starr and her 6 children and her stepdaughter, Elmer Mae Reese and her 2 children and Rufus Jakson Reese Jr., and his 2 children and his 3 stepchildren, April Marshale Reese Finch and her 2 children and 1 one stepson and Dollie Scanlin and her 3 children and her 2 stepdaughters. She had 6 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandbaby.

She is preceded in death by, her husband Bobby D Smith, her grandparents, George B. Owen and Mollie K Owen, her parents, Eula Dell Owen and John George Owen, her children, Elmer May and Charles Franklin, her great great grandson Memphis Stepp, her brothers, Barney Buck Owen, Bill Edward Owen, Charles Opie Owen, Sisters, Martha Ann Owen, Ruddick Gladys Florine Cox, Dorothy Owen, Helen Sue Reese, and numerous nephews.

John Dell Owen Smith will be missed, and she will live in our hearts forever.
