James Larry Vaughn, born November 26, 1940, passed away on August 2, 2025 at the age of 84. He passed in the comfort of his home in Tomball, Texas.
Larry was a true cowboy who had a love for breaking, training, and raising horses. His appreciation of the outdoors was well-documented in countless photos and home movies of camping, hunting, and fishing trips and a plentiful yearly vegetable garden. He loved to cook, watch Westerns and sports, and entertain company with his anecdotes and quick wit. He gave several years of dedicated service to the Port of Houston. However, his devotion to his family was unmatched; he was never short on hugs, guidance, or support. He knew those he loved with surprising depth and would show it in countless, meaningful ways. One of Larry’s greatest gifts was making others feel seen. Larry and his wife were blessed with 53 years of marriage.
Larry is preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his parents, Jesse and Mary, his sister Elizabeth, his brothers-in-law, Leo, Myrle, and Lawrence, his sisters-in-law, Jeanette and Patty, his sons-in-law, James and Lyle, and three great-grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters, Cathy, Christine, and Cindy, his son-in-law, Mark, and his sister, Billie. His influence and memory are deeply treasured by ten grandchildren, seven grandchildren-in-law, and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Larry will be laid to rest at Suggs Cemetery in Hearne, Texas.
