Brenda Thompson

March 3, 1931 — October 17, 2021

Brenda Thompson who loved to be called “Nana” by her grandkids, departed her loving family peacefully in her sleep to “dance with the angels” on October 17th, 2021 at 3:31pm at 80 years of age.

Brenda was born in Houston, Texas on March 3, 1941 to Thetas O. Wilkins Sr. and Evelyn M. Miller Wilkins.

Brenda wore many hats and therefore went by many names.  A few of those were Registered Nurse, The Pianist, and The Preachers wife, just to name a few.  However, the ones she cherished most were Honey, Mother, Nana, and friend.

Brenda grew up in Hearne Texas with her twin sister Linda and two younger brothers Thomas and Bo.  She graduated from the Lillie Jolly School of Nursing.   On December 21st, 1962 she married the love of her life Dr. Ralph V. Thompson who she shared almost 59 years of a very loving marriage with until the day of her passing.  In 1967 she adopted a son Timothy William, and in 1971 a daughter Amy Lyn.  She was an emergency room nurse and the pianist at Kingston Avenue Baptist Church in Odessa Texas until 1979 when she moved to Beaumont Texas to share her gifts there.  She then spent numerous years in the First Steps program at Spindletop MHMR where she helped many children dealing with developmental delays and birth defects before retiring.  She had a passion for helping others, and for those who had the opportunity to meet her, they felt it.  Some of her other passions were the color green, being Nana to her four grandchildren whom she loved deeply, and especially spending time with her identical twin sister Linda to which she held a very special twin connection.  Anyone that knew her felt just how loved they were.  Loving others was who Brenda was.

Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32.  And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.  She taught us much throughout her life, but perhaps the one thing we will take from her most was her ability to love and forgive.

She is survived by her husband Dr. Ralph V. Thompson, her son Timothy William Thompson, her daughter Amy Lyn Procter and her husband Jay Procter, her grandchildren Reagan Grant Williams, Taylor Nicole Thompson, Anna Claire Procter, and Timothy William Thompson II, her identical twin sister Linda Carol Wilkins Patrick, her brother Thomas Earl Wilkins and his wife Shari Wilkins, and nine nieces and nephews all of whom she loved deeply.

She was preceded in death by her parents Thetas O. Wilkins Sr. and Evelyn M. Miller Wilkins, and her brother Bo Wilkins.

Please join us to celebrate her life.  A graveside service will be held at Norwood Cemetery on Thursday October 21st at 11:00am in Hearne Texas 77859.
