Billy Ray Plagens

July 18, 1955 — December 13, 2023

Franklin

Billy Ray Plagens, 68 years old of Franklin, Texas passed away on December 13, 2023 at his home in Franklin, Texas surrounded by his children and dog Marty.

Funeral services will be held at Henry Prairie Baptist Church on 12/28/23 at 10:00 AM. A gathering with lunch to share stories of Billy with plenty of smiles and laughs will follow.

Billy was born on July 18, 1955 in Mart, Texas to Allen Gus Plagens and Gladys Ida Kroll Plagens. Billy went to school in Bryan, Texas.

Billy married Marilyn Brooks on September 26, 1979. Billy and Marilyn went on to have three children, Deborah Breedlove (52), Renea Lomon (43) and Allen Plagens (41). Though he took great pride in providing for his family, his dedication to his role as a father was unparalleled, never wavering in his love, support and guidance. Billy’s greatest accomplishment was his children and his relationship with his wife, Marilyn.

Billy worked as a roofer for the majority of his life. He had his own business, Plagens Roofing Company, and took immense pride in doing the job correct the first time. When not working you would find him golfing, fishing, playing softball or at the deer lease with his dog and son. Billy grew up hunting and fishing and continued the tradition of life outdoors with his family. He took every chance hauling the kids and Marilyn to a cold, wet deer lease and loved every minute. He took great pride in the small cabin he and his son built in Comfort, Tx and loved to have the wood burning stove running at night.

If he wasn’t enjoying the outdoors, he was coaching his son at a little league baseball field somewhere. He loved coaching and took great pride in teaching kids the game of baseball, but keeping their love of baseball alive. He loved it when his grandson Luke started playing baseball and his son Allen coaching. He became the official book keeper for his grandson Luke’s baseball team and that gave him great pride.

Billy is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Plagens, father Allen Gus Plagens, mother Gladys Kroll Heath, stepfather Bobby Heath, and sister Sandy Flatt.

Billy is survived by his children Deborah and her husband Curtis Breedlove, Renea and her husband Michael Lomon, Allen and his wife Leah Plagens; sisters Debbie Perez and Barbara Berry and their families; grandchildren Weston Breedlove, Hagen Aguilar, Luke and Emma Plagens; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and his most precious best friend Marty.

The family would like to give great thanks to Concho Hearts Hospice, Hannah Lambert. She has been amazing to the family during this difficult time.

Also M. D. Anderson Cancer Center for never giving up. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested to honor Billy’s fight with cancer by making donations to further cancer research. If you would like to contribute, please Venmo @Allen-Plagens.
