Alfred Ray Coats, Sr went to his heavenly eternal home on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family after bravely fighting complications of a stroke. He was born on December 7, 1936, in Morton, Texas to his parents Olin B. and Margie Spivey Coats.
Al spent his early years living and working on the dry farmlands of west Texas before marrying the love of his life Wanda Wilkins on March 9th, 1958, in this very church. They continue to be faithful members and supporters to this day. Al was self-employed and owned Coats Grocery & Market with his wife. They bought the family store from Wanda’s mother after the death of her father. Not only was Coats Grocery the center of this community, but Al & Wanda continually shared their blessings with everyone who walked through their doors and were pillars of this town for 56 years.
First and Foremost Al was a family man, something he cherished more than anything! He was also a loving husband, a caring son, a supportive brother, and a devoted friend. His presence and wisdom will be missed by all who were blessed to have known him and his memory will remain in their hearts forever.
Al leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Wanda and his children; daughter Sherri and husband James Rasco, his son Alfred Ray Coats, Jr and wife Paula, and his son Kevin Coats and wife Lori. He was also blessed with 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren (with number 3 on the way). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and family.
Services honoring Al will be held on Friday, May 12th, 2023 at 12:00 noon at the Gause Baptist Church. Visitation will be prior to the services at 11:00 am with burial immediately following at the Gause Cemetery.
